Easter Gumbo

Oh yeah, you read that right!

We got an email from my favorite brother the other day... he and his wife decided to have Easter Gumbo on Sunday instead of a traditional Easter dinner. Now, this is a first for our family, but it looks like it's a big hit because EVERYONE is showing up - nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandparents - the whole shabang.

Now, what you don't know is my husband (Jerry), my sister's husband (Chuck), and my favorite (and only) brother (Darren) all think that they make the best gumbo on earth. When one of the others make it, you can hear the other two over in corner somewhere talking about what should've been included or left out... or how the roux just wasn't right, etc....

They think we don't know, but we do.
Sunday will be seafood gumbo. Delicious no matter which of the three make it.

Although my family has no clue about this blog, I am not taking the risk of choosing a seafood gumbo side, people.

Does your family have a non-traditional special dinner? Some of my Mexican friends have tamales for Christmas dinner. Our Lebanese neighbors have kibbe (oh, how I wish she'd make us some right now!). How about you??

Don't get me started on the chicken and sausage gumbo... oh my goodness!

Non traditional? Well, as a vegan, yes. On Easter we will likely make calzones because they are sooooo tasty anyday! And maybe a chocolate cake. I was too full on my birthday to make a cake.

Gumbo sounds really Delish right now!

We are pretty traditional for easter Sunday

We stick with traditional but doing something different sounds much more fun. Ham and cheesy potatoes doesn't sound so good right now. But mmm...tamales :-)

that sounds pretty good actually!! We will be flying Easter Sunday...so my meal will consist of peanuts? Ick. I'm taking my food bag to cook my easter dinner of baked ziti in the coffee pot. Sigh...

I miss the Christmas tamales from when I lived in San Antonio. Jesse's (friend/co-worker) mom made the best tamales ever.

We had the traditional Easter dinner on Thursday and Friday (Ham, Mac-N-Cheese, Potato Salad, Deviled Eggs, Green Beans, etc.), since I had to make stuff for a work charity celebration. Sunday after church, Eddie and I will probably have steaks on the grill.

The only traditional holiday meal we have is Thanksgiving. Christmas is burritos and Easter can be whatever...often grilling out for the first time. Enjoy your gumbo!

We have had some non-traditional stuff in the past, but it is not a tradition to have non-traditional stuff. :)

Now I want gumbo. I hope you had a great Easter.
