Whirling Dervishes and Nuts

People... how does life spin so quickly at times? I feel like a whirling dervish.

I could go on and on about the details, but they're not too exciting and I could be typing about something much more interesting.

Like real whirling dervishes. Is "dervishes" a word?

Ever actually ever seen a dervish whirl? You can do that here. (Now, there are other whirling videos on YouTube, but I picked a quick one.)

According to something I read online, here are the basics:

The ritual whirling of the dervishes is an act of love and a drama of faith. It possesses a highly structured form within which the gentle turns become increasingly dynamic as the individual dervishes strive to achieve a state of trans. The music that accompanies the whirling from beginning to end ranges from somber to rhapsodical; its effect is intended to be mesmerizing. Chanting of poetry, rhythmic rotation, and incessant music create a synthesis which, according to the faithful, induces a feeling of soaring, of ecstasy, of mystical flight.

Really rather beautiful, isn't it?

I love learning stuff. Maybe tomorrow, I'll tell you what I learned about Brazil nuts not too long ago.

Brazil nuts?? Yeah. I started wondering how they grew, did they really come from Brazil? etc...

Now don't get me started on the poisonous cashew...

So, when you feel like your life is in a whirl, just spin, spin, spin!

My son and I found out about cashews when we were on a cruise a couple of years ago. They picked a couple to show us the green skin and explained that they were toxic - we actually took a picture of one!!

I get off on tangents like that in my mind, too. I love to know word/phrase origins, how things are made, etc. Basically anything trivial.

I think it´s an age thing, that we feel time spinning away. Too fast for me too!

I love the word dervish. It's in the movie Meet Joe Black

I want you to sing with rapture and dance like a dervish.

I've always thought whirling dervishes were MUCH more frantic and frenetic than this placid performance! BTW, the Pop'rs will soon be "in the mail," as they say. Uncle Lynn had a recent surge in orders, and everything fell behind. That's what happens when a tiny family-owned company gets too big for its britches! Thanks for your patience, and they'll be winging your way soon!
