Oh yeah... in my office...alone. Peaceful and quiet.
Eating a donut. Doughnut? I guess d.o.u.g.h.n.u.t. is correct. Maybe "donut" is one of those words that has now become acceptable.
Like "snuck" - when I was younger, it was grammatically incorrect, but according to dictionary.com, we read the following:
"It is not so common in highly formal or belletristic writing, where sneaked is more likely to occur. Snuck is the only spoken past tense and past participle for many younger and middle-aged persons of all educational levels in the U. S. and Canada. Snuck has occasionally been considered nonstandard, but it is so widely used by professional writers and educated speakers that it can no longer be so regarded."
Oh heck, I'm already on dictionary.com, let's look up "donut" and see what it says:
"n. Variant of doughnut. "
No going off on a tangent with this one - it snuck right into the dictionary and there it sits!

Now I'm hungry for donuts!!! :)
just eat the thing already!
Why did the duck eat the donut?
Because it had already crossed the road. (no wait, how does that joke go?)
Oh my...you've hit right on to one of my major pet peeves. Bad grammar and bad pronunciation. The worst offender to me is how just about EVERYONE says words that start with "st" like it's "sht" now...like 'shtart' and 'shtream' and 'shtrength'. When did that become acceptable?! I can't say too much about 'donut' because I consistently use 'nite' and 'thru' on my blog. Just one of my little quirks, I guess, since I'm such a stickler for spelling and grammar. I guess that's what makes us all human, huh? Hope you have yourself a good weekend, Lynda! I'm spending a 'girly' day with my adult daughter today and really looking forward to it!
mmmm... donuts... they are seriously one of my weaknesses. I have to work very hard to stay away...
Goodness, we had a similar debate about the words "yoghurt, yoghourt & yogurt" just last week. We had seen a TV commercial where "yoghourt" was used and Myles thought it looked wrong. No-one in our home could work out which was the correct spelling.
After consulting Dictionary.com we discovered that all were acceptable versions but that "yoghurt" was the most commonly used.
I cannot abide poor grammar, pronunciation & spelling either, a pet hate of mine.
You say "doughnut" and I say "donut"--we should call the whole thing off, but you and I know we won't! A colleague brought those sweet little critters into work the other day, and I definitely ate half the box! BTW, I'm celebrating a Sweet Centennial today over at my place--please drop by!
okay, truth be told...even in the quiet times I wish my mind could think like yours...I am horrible at grammar and spelling...so would you mind if I "snuck" over there and stole one of your "donuts"???
thank you so much for the comment you left me on my sits day :o)
just thought I would pop in and say a quick "hello"
~simply~
welp, ima guessin that my bad-poor grammer might show up in the dictionary one day...I know I should not type like a gangsta but it is how I feel sometimes...
;-)

Thank you! I've been pondering those very questions myself. :)
I'm over here from Georgie's blog! Nice to meet you. :) I'm gonna had you to blogs I stalk! LOL
I'm going to ADD not had you! LOL
Did you know that starting a sentence with the word "and" is ok now? When I was in school, that was a BIG no-no. Weird how those things change.
I wonder if Dunkin made Donut acceptable?
