The Most Wonderful Day of the Year

Oh yes, that's right...the first day of school! Nicole was so nervous about the first day, she barely slept. She had budgeted out her time to be able to flat iron her newly-cut hair. She thinks it's "short," but it's WAY below her shoulders.

I got up at 5:30am and saw her bathroom light flick on. A few moments later, she was straightening her layers. It looked great. If I hadn't left my camera at work.... oh well, maybe she'll let me catch her tomorrow.

So, she's a junior and driving to school (gasp!). She is picking up her best friend, Samantha, and they're riding together. I, of course, am nervous (breathe, OMmmmmmm, breathe).

Of course, she has informed me that she'll be completely changing her schedule - including dropping PE. It will mess up her hair. She'll play a sport next year or just take PE then. Like her hair won't matter in the future.

As you can see, school, thus far, is about her hair. And friends. And getting a good parking spot.

We did all the lectures about homework and grades, etc... she agreed to all our instruction, but we KNOW her...

Here we go...

Woohoo! First day!
When you visit admissions offices at Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth and Cornell with her this spring, please, stop in and say hello. I look at the hair around here at Cornell, and her hair would likely be the best.

I think parents all over the country are cheering! Our local tv news did a survey about who was more excited for school to start, the kids or the parents....the parents won out by a large margin!!

I'm sure Nicole will do fine....and look good while she's doing it.

We have been back for a couple of weeks (I guess we start early here in Kentucky) and I have been back since the end of July (librarians come back early in my county) so school is already old hat to me!!

And? OF COURSE the hair is the most important thing!! It still is to me!!

Hair is an important part of high school. It is what your own kids will make fun of when they see pictures of way back then.

I just had to chuckle because I could imagine all of this going on...I've been there!

And oh yes, the car and grades debate. I can't tell you how many times we took away the car due to grades. Oh the memories.

I'm glad you found my "Linky Love." You're a doll--thanks for the support! It's my 1st day back at school, too--the kids don't come 'til the day after Labor Day, but teachers are here, going through the motions, attending dreary meetings, etc., all this week. Perhaps I can blog during some of the more Tedious Times?

No doubt your daughter is at the library right now doing her homework. What a studious angel.

LOL! I thought the same thing, "As if her hair won't matter in the future!" That is classic.
Ahhh...to be a teenager again...

Junior year's a pretty stressful time for a teen--academically, anyway, isn't it? Has she started thinking about college? I remember my girls stressed quite a bit over that!

I hope she had a great first day! And yeah, protect the hair at all costs!
